If he plays in Real Madrid’s clash with Inter on Tuesday, Luka Modric would become the 43rd player to reach 100 Champions League appearances.
The Croatian playmaker’s anticipation to line up alongside teammate Toni Kroos (119), especially if the German can repeat his goal-scoring contribution from Matchday 5 – the Merengues have won 23 of the 24 games in which Kroos has scored.
Xavi hopes to avoid being eliminated again
The last time Barcelona failed to make it through the group stage was in season 2000/01; yet, the risk of elimination has never been greater than it is in the upcoming game.
Xavi Hernández, then 20, was a member of the last Blaugrana team to be eliminated, and their new coach knows that a win against Bayern is essential to make it to the next round, if rivals Benfica defeat bottom club Dynamo Kyiv in the other Group E match.
Group G has a full set of rivals
The last time all four teams in a Champions League group hoped to advance on Matchday 6 was in 2009/10, so having history repeat itself in Group G is undoubtedly unusual.
However, the solution is much more simple than it seems for the quartet – current top two LOSC and Salzburg just have to either win or draw, while chasers Sevilla and Wolfsburg must win to advance to the round of 16.
