Group E
Barcelona has been under new management since Ronald Koeman’s departure, and they have scored just two goals so far. They will need no reminder of what happened when they visited Benfica in September, a 3-0 defeat in Lisbon a significant blow to already wobbly confidence. Bayern Munich are runaway group leads, leaving Barça and the Eagles to battle for second place, with Jorge Jesus eager for the Portuguese side to grasp the situation at Camp Nou.
Having said that:
• Bayern passed to the round of 16 and they will finish in first place if they win against Dynamo and/if Barcelona do not defeat Benfica.
- Barcelona will join Bayern in the next round if they defeat Benfica.
- If Benfica loses to Barcelona, they will be unable to finish in the top two, but they will still be able to qualify for the UEFA Europa League.
- In order to reach the round of 16, Dynamo must beat Bayern and Benfica to lose to Barcelona. If they lose and Benfica does not, or if Dynamo draws and Benfica wins, they will finish last in their group.
Group F
The Red Devils earned a point at Atalanta after Cristiano Ronalo’s incredible game!
The Reds lead their group, but may need more than just Ronaldo’s magic to beat Villarreal in Spain; Unai Emery’s club is level with United on seven points following back-to-back wins, however they may be in trouble if the Yellow Submarine can keep him (Ronaldo) in their sights.
At a glance:
• Manchester United will make it to the next round if they defeat Villarreal or if both games are tied.
- Villarreal will go through if they beat United and Atalanta fails to win against Young Boys.
- Atalanta must defeat Young Boys to remain in contention to go through to the round of 16 without relying on other results.
• Young Boys must defeat Atalanta to remain in contention for the round of 16. If they lose, they will finish in 4th place.
Group G
- If Salzburg defeats Lille, they will go to the round of 16.
- Neither Lille nor Wolfsburg can make it to the next round or be eliminated on Matchday 5.
- If Sevilla loses to Wolfsburg, they will be unable to finish in the top two, but they will still be able to qualify for the UEFA Europa League. However, If Sevilla loses and LOSC avoids defeat by Salzburg, they will finish 4th.
Group H
- Juventus are already through to the round of 16 and if they draw with Chelsea they will finish at the top of the group table.
- Chelsea will be through to the next round if they win or tie to Juventus or if Zenit do not beat Malmö.
- Zenit could still reach the round of 16 if they beat Malmö and Chelsea lose to Juventus. Zenit can finish in 3rd place and go to the UEFA Europa League knockout round play-offs if they draw or win and Chelsea do not lose.
- There is a chance for Malmö to finish in the 3rd place too and enter the UEFA Europa League, only if they win against Zenit.
Group A
- Manchester City will advance if they avoid loss by Paris Saint-Germain or if Club Brugge fails to defeat Leipzig. If City wins, they will be assured of 1st place.
- Paris can go through if they defeat or draw City, and Club Brugge does not defeat Leipzig, or if they lose to City and Club Brugge also loses.
- If Club Brugge loses or draws and Paris does not lose to City, they will be unable to finish in the top two. If they draw and Paris avoids defeat, they will finish in 3rd place and qualify for the UEFA Europa League.
• Leipzig cannot finish in the top two but can still qualify for the UEFA Europa League if they beat Club Brugge.
Group B
- After earning their first point in their group on Matchday 4, AC Milan may be inspired by Atalanta’s incredible comeback in 2019/20, when the Serie A club returned from a similarly bleak start to reach the round of 16. That escape route is now open, with Liverpool already through and Porto and Atlético not far behind.
Therefore:
- Liverpool are already through to the round of 16 as group winners
- Porto will do too only if they beat Liverpool and Atlético loses against Milan
- Atlético must win to be considered for the round of 16 without relying on other outcomes.
- Milan must win to remain in contention for a place in the round of 16 or the UEFA Europa League. If Porto wins, Milan will not be able to finish in the top two regardless of their own performance.
Group C
- Ajax has advanced to the round of 16 and there’s a possibility to finish 1st if they do not lose to Beşiktaş, or if Sporting do not defeat Dortmund.
- Dortmund will also advance if they win against Sporting.
- Sporting can also make it to the next round if they defeat Dortmund by two goals or more. If they lose, they will qualify for the UEFA Europa League.
- If Beşiktaş manage to beat Ajax and Dortmund loses to Sporting, they will finish 3rd in their group and make it through the UEFA Europa League qualification.
Group D
- If they defeat Sheriff, Madrid will go through. If Madrid wins and Inter do not beat Shakhtar, they will be assured of first place.
- Inter will go through too if they defeat Shakhtar and Sheriff does not defeat Madrid.
- Sheriff can also pass to the next round if they defeat Real Madrid and Inter lose to Shakhtar. If they lose and Inter beat Shakhtar, they will qualify for the UEFA Europa League.
- Shakhtar must beat Inter to remain in contention for the round of 16 but this result also depends on other results.
